Aberdeen Training Centre Welcomes OPITO Students

Aberdeen training company Survivex has welcomed a group of trainees from OPITO’s Upstream Modern Apprenticeship Scheme.  The students are undertaking their basic offshore safety induction and emergency training course (BOSIET) before beginning placements with sponsors at the end of May.

The trainees are in the 2nd year of OPITO’s apprenticeship scheme and have completed 21 months of onshore training.  They have gained practical and theoretical experience in instrumentation, mechanical maintenance and process operations.

George Green, Managing Director of Survivex said, “We’re delighted to welcome the students of OPITO to Survivex.  These students are the future of the oil and gas industry and we hope that they have left our facility enthused about their chosen field and raring to get out there and progress their career”.

Survivex is Aberdeen’s newest offshore survival and industrial skills training centre.  Based in Dyce, Aberdeen Survivex moved into its purpose built premises in May 2011.  Placing an emphasis on realistic training, the Company hopes to set new standards with regards to offshore survival training and to enhance the safety culture that exists within the oil and gas industry.

George Green continues, “We have the only environmental effects simulator in Europe which allows delegates to experience the north sea at its fiercest, we use current issue survival suits and our helicopter underwater escape trainers have been set up to recreate the cabins of a range of helicopters with seat and window references exactly as they are on the real thing.  This realistic training will help to save lives by better preparing delegates for the reality of working offshore”.

The team of OPITO trainees on course with Survivex this week are the first of five groups of students to undergo their BOSIET training and offshore medical at the state-of-the-art training centre.   The students join 3000 delegates who are currently training with Survivex on a monthly basis.
